The ROG handheld PC is real and Asus announced it in the worst way-
Update #1: Asus has confirmed the ROG Ally, its own handheld gaming PC, is real. This follows a painfully long-winded April Fools’ Day ‘joke’ announcing the product.
To get you up to speed, the ROG Ally is a handheld gaming PC that Asus announced on April Fools’ Day and confirmed to be a joke. Then they kept going on about it after the fact and now two days later they’re revealing the actual April Fools’ Day joke was that it was real all along.
Basically, there’s no joke, never was.
Update #2: We have some concrete info on what’s powering the ROG Ally (not A Lie).
Dave2D has the details, and confirms that inside the ROG Ally is a custom AMD SoC built on TSMC’s 4nm process node. It houses a Zen 4 CPU and an RDNA 3 …

Read moreThe Witcher 3’s next-gen vaginas are going away-
CD Projekt has confirmed that the addition of detailed vaginas to female monsters was in fact a mistake, and will be removed.
There was already plenty of nudity in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but the next-gen update that arrived in December upped the ante somewhat. As we saw last week, both the Crones of Crookback Bog (in their human forms) and the vampiric bruxae that appear in the Blood and Wine expansion were given significantly changed pubic areas in the update, taking them from a “Barbie doll situation” to the full monty, complete with visible labia and nicely coiffed public hair.
You can see the changes thanks to screens posted on Reddit, which for obvious reasons I would not recommend clicking on if you’re at work and they’re not cool with full frontal nudity.
(Or…

Read moreValve’s working on HDR for Linux gaming, paving the way for an eventual OLED Steam Deck-
A Valve designer has revealed that at least one developer associated with the company is working on spinning up HDR for Linux gaming.
Joshua Ashton, who works on key bits of tech like DXVK and VKD3D-Proton, has apparently gotten HDR properly going. The development was noted by Steam Deck developer Pierre-Loup Griffais via Twitter, where he showed off both Halo Infinite and Deep Rock Galactic.
I find it specifically very spicy to play Microsoft’s flagship series on a Linux machine. There’s something deliciously heretical about that.
For avid Steam Deck watchers eager to read the tea leaves on new hardware developments at valve, this milestone seems significant. This announcement could lend some hope to the idea that the next Steam Deck will ship with a powerfully bright…

A strong opener—I do love seeing three yellows on that top line—soon turned into a real struggle today, the letters either not falling into place quickly enough or not turning up at all. I did manage to pull it all together eventually, but only after spending a few goes trying and failing to fill in a stubborn grey gap to get to today’s Wordle answer.

Read moreVampire Survivors is finally getting couch co-op multiplayer for up to 4 players-
There are still no vampires coming to Vampire Survivors, but what is coming on August 17 is a new couch co-op mode that will let up to four people jump in to do battle with the game’s multitudinous enemies—and, just a little bit, with each other.
Couch co-op multiplayer will be accessible in both new and ongoing games, so if you’re well into it with lots of unlocked characters and levels, you can keep on rolling from there rather than having to start a new game. It will work with the base game and all DLC, and you’ll also be able “seamlessly” switch between solo and co-op play between stages, and unlock all Vampire Survivors achievements in either mode.
“In short: you will be able to play the whole game in local co-op!” developer poncle said. “And yes, this will also w…
Read moreVampire Survivors set for hefty FPS boost as its new engine finally gets a release date- ‘It’s like a completely different game’-
I’ll be honest: I don’t think of Vampire Survivors as much of a resource hog, given that it consists mostly of lightly-animated sprites roaming a 2D plane, but that might just be because I’m not very good at it. As rounds drag on, sprites pile up and the weapon effects grow ever-more vivacious, meaning even a game as elegant and humble as this can start chugging. Good news, then, that Vampire Survivors has finally put a firm date on its switch to Unity almost a year after it was first announced.
The transition to the new engine—which is the one the game already uses on mobile and Xbox—will take place on August 17, and Poncle promises it’s been “thoroughly tested and runs better than the old one”. I’m inclined to believe that; the Unity version has actually been accessi…
Read moreHelldivers 2 players just wiped out an entire enemy faction, so what on Super Earth happens now–
The official Helldivers Twitter account has announced that players’ latest operation was a success, with the forces of Super Earth wiping out an entire enemy faction. The Automatons were cornered to a few holdout worlds days ago and defeated for good today, which begs the question: where does the game go now, sans an entire enemy type?
“You did it, Helldivers,” Arrowhead declared. “Operation Swift Disassembly was a success! With the bots eradicated and bugs contained, the galaxy is free once more.”
It’s an incredibly bold move for a live game, even the famously elastic and reactive Helldivers 2, whose wartime plot twists and surprise gear upgrades are masterminded by a shadowy GM known only as Joel. Swift Disassembly commenced on Friday, with a three-day time limit for playe…

Today’s Wordle definitely gave my keyboard a good exercise, making me chase after the answer right up to the very last row. Worse still is how obvious the word I needed to find is in hindsight. Why on earth did I ever try that or that when I could’ve reached straight for this instead? Can I try again?
